LUIGI MORCIANO (100% Gigio)
Born in Anzio (Roma) on 25/02/1994. In 2006 takes part and passes the selection for the “Aprilia Junior GP Trophy“ sponsored by Aprilia, the Italian Motocycle Federation and Moto Sprint. In 2007, at the age of 13, he takes part in the “Aprilia Junior GP Trophy“, 5 races on the circuits of Misano, Vallelunga and Magione he is classificed in 13th position. In 2008, aged 14 and the youngest driver of the CIV Italian Speed Championship he attains 7th position overall and 4th for the under 18s. In the same year he participates in some races in Spain C.E.V. and C.M.V. In 2009 he becomes part of the Aprilia Junior GP Team and participates in the C.I.V., 125 cc class, where he reaches the podium three times and is classified 3rd overall. The season sees him involved with the team JGP Racing Dream, in the C.I.V., and some races of the C.E.V., in Europe and in three Wild Card entries Worldwide. In the Italian GP he attains 16th place on the starting grid but unfortunately falls during the race, four laps from the finish, whilst in 13th place. The Summer of 2010 is a period of recovery to re-establish his mental and physical strength, helped and constantly followed by the technicians of the Federation and the staff of CONI. In the autumn, after recovering from the accident, and in the last race of the CIV at Mugello, he attains pole position and a place on the podium, in the Portuguese GP as a Wild Card entry he attains 14th place.
In 2011 Luigi is selected by the Italian Motorcycle Federation for the “Italian Team” a medium-term training programme for the most promising drivers, he participates in the World Championships in the 125 GP category where he distinguishes himself constantly progressing and finding himself amongst the points.
At the Brno GP he attains 11th place whilst at Indianapolis, on his debut on the American circuit, attains 15th place.
At the San Marino GP he attains 14th place and on his debut on the circuit at Aragon 12th place, being able to reach the points zone four times consecutively.
At the end of the season, in the Australian GP, he again attains 12th place and in the last race of the season enters the “Top Ten” with an excellent 9th place.
Luigi ends the 2011 125GP World Championships with 23 points in 20th place overall. On balance, a very encouraging first year in World Motorcycling and a reflection of the grit and tenacity which distinguishes this young driver.
In 2012 he transfers to Team Ioda Italia, racing in the new category Moto3 racing an Ioda. In this season he is forced to miss the Grand Prix in Aragon, Japan, Malaysia and Australia due to a fracture of his left arm sustained during the free trials at the Aragon GP. This year after some experience with the derivatives of the series including two Wild Card entries at the World Supersport in Aragon and Assen, he joined Team Ellan Vannin where, thanks to the experience of the team, he can best express his potential.
